COMMUNITY RESOURCES

You can help the LGBTQIA community by educating yourself, speaking out against discrimination, and supporting LGBTQ people. You can also support LGBTQIA organizations that offer resources and services.

Educate yourself;

• Learn about LGBTQIA issues and rights

• Read books by LGBTQIA authors

• Attend LGBTQIA events

Speak out against discrimination;

• Don't make assumptions about people's sexual orientation or gender identity

• Speak out against homophobia, transphobia, and anti-LGBTQIA harassment

• Report anti-LGBTQIA harassment or discrimination

• Speak up when you witness discriminatory behavior

• Advocate politically - contact your local elected officials via letters, calls, or emails

• Attend Protests and Demonstrations (know your rights, practice nonviolence, be respectful)

Support LGBTQIA people;

• Stand up for your LGBTQIA friends

• Affirm their identity and use their pronouns

• Create an anti-oppressive, gender-affirming space

• Amplify marginalized Voices - share and promote content from individuals or groups affected by discrimination.

• Support affected communities - donations, volunteering, support businesses/artists/creators

• Join advocacy groups or grassroots movement

Practice self-care and resilience.  This time can be emotionally taxing; take care of yourself and your friends so you can stay in the fight for the long haul.
